ANVIL Rarity Makes Splash On eBay

January 23, 2002

ANVIL mainman Lips recently commented on the existence of rare copies of the original vinyl version of ANVIL's Hard'n'Heavy LP, issued under the name LIPS, which are currently making the rounds via eBay and other auction sites (a current eBayauction has the item going for upwards of $120):

“Just think: the LIPSHard n Heavy album was sold for $5.00 at our gigs in 1980. The cost at the time was about $2.00 a copy! We made more than 100% profit on the albums we sold, but did you know that I've heard that people have paid as much as 1000 marks in Germany, which is about $800.00 Canadian! If you ask me, people put too much time and effort into useless causes. It serves no useful purpose to own one of these, but yet people go crazy for rare pressings. The ANVIL copy sounds a hell of a lot better as we did the mastering for the LIPS album and didn't have a clue what we were doing. It was remastered for Attic [Records]' release and it was given a new cover to go with the new name. The only reason I'm holding on to them is for the money that they will be worth to my family, they can use the dough to pay my funeral costs!!!!! The government can't tax this kind of thing. Ah, they'll probably cremate me anyway, and I'll just be ashes on the mantle. I'm in a morbid mood today hope nobody takes it the wrong way. I plan to be around for a while.....”
